256 DDR Ram only shows 192

I have one 256 DDR ram DIMM on a MB I bought in December.
My MB supports up to over a gig. So that isn't the problem.
The DIMM shows that there is 64 meg on board.
When I boot up, the memory test only shows 192 ... same as in the properties on My Computer (Win XP Pro).
I was told I had 256 meg RAM but can't see find where the missing 64 went.
Is it possible the DIMM is running at 256 but only reports 192?
When there is on board memory (I've never heard of this b4), do you have to turn on any options in the BIOS or anything?
Thanks.

64 is probably being assigned to the onboard video.

Thanks, I was reading about that sometimes happening.
Can that be changed?

System ram will only be assigned to onboard video cards. If you'd buy a seperate video card, the onboard one would need to be disabled and wouldn't use any system ram anymore.
You can usually change how much system ram is assigned to the video card in the bios.

Thanks for your answer, I appreciate that.
I think I'll go out and purchase more RAM to solve my memory problem, or an AGP vid card, depends which is less expensive.
Have a great week.

The RAM, would probably be cheaper. But you do yourself a big favour, by getting a video card instead.
And If you go for a videocard. choose one that is 128 mb memory.
And disable your integrated video card in BIOS, Under Integrated Periferials. You get into BIOS by pressing the "Escape" key, during boot sequense.
