i am trying to get a friend onto my wireless network. His house is about 300ft away so i figured i would try out the supercantenna 15dbi 30 degree signal. He has a desktop with a pci wireless card. for experimenting i used a laptop/w wireless card to see how close we would come to reaching the house with the cantenna. i can get the signal all the way to his front door, which i was pretty impressed for a 53 dollar gadget at compusa. i cant seem to get anything inside the house. he doesnt have any 2.4gh wireless phones but will need to be going thorugh a 1 concrete wall and 2 other walls. am i SOL, trying to stay cheap, or is there something you would suggest. i was thinking about getting a 6dbi reciever for the desktop that was 15 bucks, but not sure of the results. i have 21 days until i need to return the cantenna which is an option if there are better solutions.
as always thanks for everything, looking forward to your creativity.

There are posts on other sites about extending WiFi using homebrew equipment such as pringle tubes etc. I imagine the concrete wall may prove a stumbling block - is there any way you can attach an aerial to his property which gives a reasonable line of sight (or even general direction) to your house? If you set up the same thing on both properties, you should get a signal.

Also try googling for combinations of "wifi", "wireless", "cantenna" or "pringle" - there are solutions to your problem in there.

thanks for the reply. i finallly convinced hime to move his pc upstairs into a different room where he can actually hook up his pc, with no walls in the way, and a window to shoot the cantanna from his pc to the wireless signal. I am now able to connect, but the signal is very low which i need to do something about. i will definitly check out your links. Thanks a lot.
