HI everyone i hope someone here can help me...
i recently got a used laptop from a friend and the motherboard wont recognize the hard drive...and if it does, it shuts down at random intervals.....however I entered BIOS and discovered that when the computer is detecting the hard drive and doesnt recognize it, i press where the hard drive is(left of the caps lock button)and BAM!! the hard drive appears in the BIOS...
I tried cleaning the contacts.....
loosening the screws...
Tightening the screws...
putting a piece of plastic so it stays put...
but no luck
I know that somehow when I power up my computer somehow it loses contact and then appears a blue screen with a stop message and i have to restart my computer
Can Anyone help me here please?

It sounds like a dieing hard drive to me. if it is a maxtor drive, have you tried the powerMAX program or another program to test if the drive is bad?
