Starcraft: Unable to save uninstall data file.

I have recently bought another copy of Starcraft since I could not find my original with the actual CD Key. I uninstalled the previous version and tried installing the new one to update the CD Key from a generic one. Upon installation, it copies over all of the files and at the point where it should say finished, a dialog box pops up with the message "Unable to save uninstall data file. Installation cancelled." I have tried numorus ways to stop the files from being instanly deleted to no avail. I have yet to find any information on this type of error at MS, Blizzard, or via Google. I was led to this site from another person claiming the same error on D2. That person however did not follow through. He was asked for system information and that was the last post.
This has been an interesting situation. I have edited out all instances of starcraft from the registry. I know there is no virus or spyware involved. I tried a restore point with no success. Other programs are installing fine and this new CD installs on another machine. I have updated the Windows Installer package again but I feel that was a waste since the starcraft installer is a single exe file as opposed to the typical current day msi.
I have also tried reinstalling the older backup copy I had...version 1.03 rather than the new 1.05 but simply get an "Installation failed." message from that one.
Anyone have any suggestions? I am perplexed to say the least.

Hey there, I'm having the exact same problem with Warcraft III. I had the game previously installed and running perfectly, but uninstalled it to try fixing a patch problem. Now I get the very same "Unable to save uninstall data file" message. I too have scoured the computer for any instance remnants, and it will install fine on other computers. This issue is like nothing I've ever encountered with installations, so I'm stumped to say the least. If you find a solution please let me know... and of course I'll do the same for you.
