We see dozens of articles a week about the upcoming Xbox. A short summary from Yahoo! explaining the marketing blitz is interesting.
The marketing wheels at Microsoft Corp. are grinding into motion as the software giant gears up to launch its Xbox video game console, which it envisions not only as a gaming machine but an entertainment hub for the home.
It looks as if AK47's prediction of the Xbox being a "poor man's PC" may actually be reflected in Microsoft's marketing campaign.
"On the marketing side it's all about building buzz"
That's always been Microsoft's way, hasn't it?
"Yo quiero Xbox!''
Taco Bell will be one of many trying to bring the Xbox to the target market, mostly the 15-to-25-year-old males Microsoft sees as its key audience.
Despite early reports that suggest the GameCube is turning out to be the must-have machine for the holidays, Bach says the Nintendo machine, with its cute and colorful design, ultimately aims at a younger crowd than the supercharged Xbox.
Wow! How unlike Microsoft! It almost sounds like they are going to impress upon our youth that their console is more mature than the competition.
The first advertisements are just now starting to appear in gaming magazines, marking the beach-head of a half-billion-dollar campaign to sell the Xbox over the next year and a half.
We're still trying to figure out how Microsoft is NOT a monopoly when they are spending $500 million on selling a component where the market is $20 billion a year. Microsoft is only making the console, primarily. Most of that revenue comes from games. So, they must be intending to take over the game market later.
