Better play it safe so I'm posting this in the R&R forum.

I got no problems with it ... I don't even notice it ... I think I'd rather see shows that have realistic casting than seeing a token minority being put in it just to be politically correct or to satisfy some twisted sense of fake ethnic guilt...

I will... um, take this in mind when I... watch my favorite... Asian American drama?

I don't have any problem with the casting of currently TV shows, I just find it funny how can they claim that the lack of Asian casts in TV shows makes us "anti-social".
As for 9'er, I don't know what kind of TV shows you like to watch but I'm sure it's something with a mix of politics and comedy, but Kristin Kreuk from Smallville is half Chinese half Dutch so I guess she can count as Asian Canadian... oh and that Asian dude from "Harold and Kumar".

see! you don't even know his name, you antisocial racist! you only want to see young black men selling drugs and young hispanic men in gangs and skanky white girls on your primetime television, don't you?!
heh, but actually what the story said is that the lack of asian characters somehow portrays the asians in america as antisocial, that they do not interact with the community.

there are only two asians in Lost, the only television show i watch, and the only reason why one if them is "antisocial" is because he doesn't speak the same language as everyone else. so whatever

the report highlighted the fact that the tiny number of regular Asian American characters in TV dramas uniformly hold high status jobs, often in medicine or law enforcement.
you know, other ethnic groups bitch about not being portrayed as intelligent and productive. here you have an ethnic group portrayed almost exclusively in a positive manner, and this group is bitching because other americans dont feel a connection because theyre not being shown to be drug dealers and unemployed. give me a break.

huh? if she is a citizen of china, she is chinese. if she is a citizen of the netherlands, she is dutch. if she is a citizen of canada, she is canadian. but if you really wish to drag ethnicity into her citizenship, you should refer to her as European Canadian at least 50% of the time.

As I said, none of these bother me ... I think that "Asian Americans" (bleh) like me have better things to do than obsess about what image we exude to "impressionable" American audiences...
And I find all this "half this and half that, therefore they're half this" talk to be really really ridiculous - we're not talking about dogs or cats here... reminds me of some of my older folks who obsess about racism, discrimination and stereotyping every freakin time, yet they don't hesitate to put down other ethnic groups as if that gives them a right to do it...
When I watch something on television or movies, I look at the character they portray, not the color of their skin or their accents. So what if Asian Americans get allegedly cast by directors as young, rich snobs or something. I don't get any less sleep about it...

Also wanted to add that the article puts up so much fuss about nothing...

This reminds me of a recurring sketch that used to be on madtv(maybe it still is). It was called "Average Asian" about a guy named Hideki. It even had a little theme song that the words changed depending on what happened in the sketch. Like there was one where he was taking a math test, and these 2 other kids go 'Hey hideki, your orien...Asian. Can you help us with this test?' and he says like "Gee...I..." and they go "THANKS!" and they answer G and I on the test. Then the little song plays and goes like: "He's an average Asian. He isn't good with equations. He isn't dumb, he isn't smart. He's not good at art. He's an average Asian!".
