video card question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've been experiencing odd activity concerning my graphics. My aging radeon 9200 that has been OCed for a long time is what i think is the problem. Games i could easily play before, for example: rome total war and half life2, now either crash, run slow, or display random lines and glitches on the screen. I was just wondering if my assumption about my video card near kicking the bucket is most likely the cause of my problems. ty

From what you tell, it seems pretty bad. And if you have fresh a fresh driver installed...well.
How does it look, when not gaming?

those are signs of overheating. if the fan is working, and the heatsink clean, stop overclocking

my system has like 8 fans installed on it, i mean this thing is pretty cool considering. Maybe some thermal paste wouldn't be a bad thing to do i guess. and i have two fans right by the video card so it's definately getting some air, idk i think it's just old and cannot take these newer games.

Yeah, a guy accross the hall has a radeon 9000 and it often times cant display lots of things properly, I would VERY highly recommend that you stop overclocking though, you might need to UNDERCLOCK if that causes some of the glitches to go away.

OK! awesome! i too am having this exact problem: Basically i get converging triangles whenever i play new games like HL2, Doom3, or Joint Operations. I do the Counterstrike Stress Test and nearly all textures render, but the water glitches, sometimes fire does, and again, converging triangles and random lines. My card is at 45C-60C depending on load. What the deuce is going on? i RMA'd the card, i have latest drivers and there is no OC-ing. It used to work until the end of MArch, then it just stopped. I honestly didnt touch a thing. Thanks!

My Rig:
AMD 64 3500+
MSI 6600GT
Gigabyte PCI-E Mobo

As soon as i get home, i will upload a specific picture so you guys can see.

I hope that works, i have very very limited HTML skills...if it doesn't and you still think you can help me out, my AIM Screen name is the same as my user name here. Thanks.

Those would be graphical tears gonuts. Try reverting back to older drivers. Have you ever oc'd this card?

Haha! The problem started one day in march, (Yeah, without new games since march!) i Played CS Source, left for class, and came back to that mess. Nothing on my rig Was OC'ed, i just bumped my clock up to 217 so i am running 2.4ghz instead of 2.2, but no graphics...

Now! i just played CS 1.6 which used to work until i was "Dropped" from the server 4 times. The console said it was do to corrupted system memory. Thank goodness i just had 1gb of corsair shipped so i can put that new RAM in. i also have a new PSU on the way, 500Watt 36A on the +12 rail. I want to go SLI soon, i have a good job so i can afford it.

So what caused the glitches?

Oh, as for old drivers, i completely uninstalled windows at one point and did a fresh install and i didnt even put SP2 on before HL2 was on...still the glitches. I Also RMA'd the card to MSI and i got it back 3 wseeks ago and still the same problem as soon as the card was in

You bumped your clock to 217 may have done it. Getting dropped from the server probably meant you were overclocked too high, maybe you wouldn't have even needed new ram if you would have just taken it down.

So...uh...yeah, i have 2 new sticks of RAM and a new 500Watt PSU with plenty of power...and still, i have the same glitch...i am getting XP Pro 64 Edition so we shall see, but i am now down to my MoBo and processor...the mobo i can handle, i want SLI anyway, but the 3500+ @ $275 will have to wait. Thanks for the help, any ideas?

The clock was on my processor alone, nothing was done to the GPU, and i just did that, last week even...

Also, i have many benchmark testing programs and i just ran AquaMark. Now durring the first test, it has AntiAliasing and anisotropic filtering turned off and detail very low. Everything works fine. It bumps up to Low detail and thigs get screwy...bah!

Why are the graphics tearing? waht causes that?
