I'm in dire need of help with my Panasonic SR-8587 DVD-ROM drive. I just purchased a new computer and this drive was included with it. The drive appears to be fine in all respects, but when I put in any sort of disk it is not reginized at all! It keeps telling me to insert a disk! Help! I spend 3 grand and thsi rig and I cant get this to work!

My system is as follows:
AuthenticAMD ~1399MHz
512 Mb (523 704 Kb)
NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS/GeForce2 Pro
Phlips Acoustic edge
Microsoft Windows ME U.S. English 4.90 (build 3000)

I reeeealy need some help with this soon!

Who did you buy the computer from? It would be a good first step to contact the people who sold you the computer and get in touch with their tech support department. It is gonna be their responsibility if they sold you a computer with a drive that doesn't work...

In any case, do you have the latest firmware updates on your drive? I would recommend contacting the people who sold you the computer first....

I bought it at a place called Firestorm Technology ( http://www.firestorm.ab.ca/ ) in Calgary, Alberta. I have been in contact with them about this and right now I'm waiting for their tech guy to come in (he'll be in in another hour now.) I gotta say though I'm starting to lose fath in these guys fast with all the probs I'm having with them...

Sounds like the drive is fubared. I'd demand a replacement drive.
