(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

PS3 combines state-of-the-art technologies featuring Cell, a processor jointly developed by IBM, Sony Group and Toshiba Corporation, graphics processor (RSX) co-developed by NVIDIA Corporation and SCEI, and XDR memory developed by Rambus Inc. It also adopts BD-ROM (Blu-ray Disc ROM) with maximum storage capacity of 54 GB (dual layer), enabling delivery of entertainment content in full high-definition (HD) quality, under a secure environment made possible through the most advanced copyright protection technology. To match the accelerating convergence of digital consumer electronics and computer technology, PS3 supports high quality display in resolution of 1080p(*) as standard, which is far superior to 720p/1080i.

For years I had been wondering when I would have a reason to buy an HDTV.

Look out for a preview of the PS3 Controller, featured exclusively in Batman Begins!

I think Microsoft is going to have some serious issues come PS3 release date. Overall, the specs between the two aren't even close. The PS3 will pwn. Most of the web sites that are releasing E3 info right now aren't mentioning specs that were previously released, but the graphics are fully programmable as well as 8 of the 9 cores in the CPU. For those of you who know your hardware, you already know this is insane.

the problem is that none of this, and I do mean none of it at all, mean a damn thing until the thing is on shelves.

Backwards compability is all I really care about, system specs mean nothing to me. I replaced my playstation with a ps2. I'll replace my ps2/ps with a ps3.

I don't have an xbox. Buying a 360 will, so far at least, not allow me to play xbox games. therefore, I might get one, eventually, but it's not a priority.

I'm probably in the minority, though.

i think developers would be able to make more money with xbox.

online marketplace, easier development, cheaper media.

but ps3 will have the prettiest games in 3 years.

Posted by: pakenney38

PS3 will have the prettiest games on day one. Look at the specs again, look at the development teams, and tell me you do not agree. Xbox 360 will be pretty much a fond memory come May 1, 2006. Supposedly Microsoft is banking on the next Halo to save face. It's like Nintendo's treatment of Mario or Zelda all over again.

The new xbox just looks like crap. The ps3 and the nintento revoultion look like the 2 best systems. I personaly think the revolution will do better(i bought a ps2 btw). The new ps3 is going to cost $500 as i hear. Apparently the graphic system in it alone costs over $1000. This is just all stuff i have heard. Also the revolution will have an online system where you can download games all the way back to snes. Im not going to buy any of the new systems because i prefer computer, but i think the revolution will be most practicle.

Ahahahaah this thread makes me laugh.

Funny, because I was told by someone recently that at E3 the price points were announced at $299 for the PS3 and $399 for the XBOX 360.

Posted by: Null Actor

the prices were not announced at E3. However, word got out in Japan that Sony is planning on selling the PS3 for the japanese yen equivalent of $465 USD.

Thank you for clearing that up, because people will say anything to look cool. Still though, I think they won't go higher than $350 since they know that people won't pay for it. Otherwise they could find themselves with the inability to push the PS2 to the side.

I feel so cool right now. ^^ Anyway- iv read in a few places on assorted forums and newsletters and crap like that, that the graphics system is, lets say more expensive than the unit itself. Therefor sony will be losing money. But we will only know when time reveals this to us.

All consoles lose money for most of their lifetime.

The grapevine right now is that the PS3 uses an Nvidia-based processor for graphics, and that this GPU can do more than twice as much processing than two 6800 Ultras in SLI. With this said, for those of you who are PC-heads, the G70 (7800 GTX) will be more than just an incremental upgrade, and stands to put ATi seriously in check thanks to co-development from Sony. But that's another topic entirely.

However, the GPU in the PS3 was more than likely designed to get maximum performance with minimal heat seeing that it's going to have to fit in the PS3 without frying it. Designing a semiconductor in this manner generally turns out to be more cost-effective anyway for the manufacturer. So while the price tag of the PS3 should be over $800 according to the GPU specs, you can bet that Sony and Nvidia have worked very hard to reduce that figure.

I think i'll be poor by the time PS3/XBOX360 comes out. $59.99 a game. -_- Maybe when games hit Hits they might be $24.99 or $29.99

Let us not forget what happened to the ill fated Atari Jaguar system...money talks...

I've seen it, it is amazing!

Ahhh, can't wait. Finally, the PS3... Hopefully it'll have longer lifetime than the PS2...

Posted by: Cant Stop

i have heard the ps3 will feature sonys blue tooth technology
so they will sell it at a loss to get the tech out there plus the backwards compatibility is a big plus!
you have to remember that $500 is not bad if you factor in that it will play dvd movies better than the ps2 and it will also play cd's
so you actually get 3 systems in one that are better than the current ps2
no having to buy advd player or a cd player, i use my ps2 to play all my movies now so.!
