Multiple Ip config?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have my computer plugged into a hub from which it recieves the internet. I also have an Xbox plugged into the same hub. If I alter the tcp/ip properties of the connection I can connect to the xbox via ftp and If I reset the tcp/ip to auto I can get the internet. Is there no way I can get both at the same time??? (Win XP home btw) It gets tedious having to retype ip #'s over and over and over again.

thnx in advance

Give your XBox and your computer different IP addresses, like 192.168.1.5 and 192.168.1.6.

if I assign an ip to my computer, I can't get on the internet, that is the problem. Becuase my ISP uses DHCP to assign a dynamic IP to my computer. I need a way to either quickly switch between settings, or a way to get them both working. Eg. to get to the Xbox I assign 192.168.0.10 to my computer and the xbox to 192.168.0.1. But to get on the internet I have to change 192.168.0.10 to (Obtain IP address automatically) to get on the internet. I'm tired of typing 192.168.0.10 to get to my xbox there has to be an easier way. If I leave it auto config (ie. with the internet on), I can't reach the xbox at it's IP for some reason.

So does your PC get the IP address from the 'hub' or from the ISP? How exactly do you connect the internet - is it dial-up or broadband? If broadband is it cable or DSL? Is there a separate modem or is it part of the 'hub'? What are the exact make and model no.s of the hub / modem and any other piece of equipment involved (don't need the PC specs).

I connect through the Hub, the IP addy is assigned by the DHCP of the ISP through the modem ( A speedster modem for DSL "Lite" (512k/128k) The hub is incapable of assigning an IP. will look afer exact models, not sure off hand.
thnks 4 your help.

If your IP address starts with a 192 then the hub is assigning the IP address. 192 is reserved for non internet use.

What you can do, if your hub is not assigning the address is let you machine act as a virtual server. Since the only thing it would be doing it providing is internet access to the X-Box it would not be a great burden. I have not done this in a while (like years) but that is the basic idea.
