USB Port Problem

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

When ever i plug anything into my usb ports my computer will not recognize that anything has been plugged in. Auto detect will not detect anything. The ports seem to be working fine and reinstalling drivers or installing new drivers does not seem to help the matter at all. I am at a loss. Also checked the bios and everything looked fine in there too. would think they are borken but when i uninstalled my drivers windows found the ports and reinstalled the drivers. Any help would be appreciated!

Try a new USB driver, from your motherboard manufacturer + chipset driver.
Download Everest Home and check what motherboard manufacturer and model you got?.Also click "Chipset" to find out what chipset you got?
Then visit your motherboard manufactuirer, for new USB driver.

if you got an intel chipset, visit Intel home.
VIA shipset: VIA hone
Nforce : Nvidia

You could also try a registry repair software, like Registry Mechanic. Unfortunatly there are no such freeware. So you will have to scan repair 15 faults, scan again repair 15 etc.

Motherboard is from Elitegroup Computer Systems
ID: SiS 730-6A6ISE19C-00
Name: ECS K7SEM

Chipset: North Bridge Properties SiS 730S revision 02

Did not realy find any drivers for these but found similar ones and ones to fix an XP problem but alas none seem to do the job. Appreciate the help though. What is this registry mechanic you speak of?
I am fairly new to the technical aspect of computers and now just because i have to though i lovbe to gain the knowledge. Any further help you may offer would be greatly appreciated!

If it helps i am trying to connect my Dell DJ which worked fine on my system and then suddenly just quit being connectable as well as anything else i try to connect to the usb. I have tried the Dj on other systems and it works fine so it is not a problem with the Dj.

Wich of these motherboard is it ? :

K7SEM PCB 1.0

K7SEM PCB 3.0A

K7SEM PCB 3.0C

Registry Mechanic, is a registry repair software. Windows xp, is very "good" at messing up the registry, wich can cause problems, like the one you have.

If nothing helps, this may be a good last resort:

VANTEC PCI to USB Card Model UGT-PC205 - Retail 14.05 $. at Newegg.
It's a PCI, USB 1.0 Card, that will fit into any PCI slot on your motherboard.

Thank's for the kind words! Take a look at this USB PCI card. That COULD be a soloution, if nothing else works! But I hope it wont have to come to that.

It says it just got drivers for Windows 95, 98 and ME. Just because XP allready got generic drivers for USB. So you dont have to install any.

Another such card but USB 2.0 is this: D-Link USB 2.0 Adapter Model DU-520 - Retail $26.00
newegg.
This Win. XP got generic drivers for.

Went and got the Regestry Mechanic as you suggested but to no avail. Though it was great at cleaning up my regestry so not a complete waste of time. Freeware was useless as most items were unfixable unless full version was obtained so i had to crack it. Worked fine then thank you very much. Was hoping it would not come to buying a card as i am unemployed right now and cash is tight. It would be nice if i knew mine were just broke! Make the purchase a little easier to deal with. All i wanted to do was back up info on pda to reformat as i have no dvd burner and some stuff is too big for disk. wondering if a reformat would fix this problem? Will try anyway in a day or two and see. thanks for all your help! at the very least i got a useful program out of my problem. stupid usb ports....... if you think of anything else please let me know.
