Running XP, I cannot access IE. I check tools, internet options, connections. In the LAN settings box, both Proxy option boxes are checked and they shouldn't be. I uncheck them and refresh and they both come back as checked.
In my other profiles, these proxy boxes are unchecked and I can access IE.
So my question is, how do I keep the 2 proxy options unchecked in that administrator profile.
I'm quite sure this started after I installed 4 new security programs purchased from Gateway...Pre-Empt, Ghost Surf, Spysweeper and Window Washer.

Why use the crappy IE at all? Try Mozilla Firefox instead. Much better!

But if you wanna hang on to IE. Try download a Registry repair software.

I think one of those programs you installed works as a proxy (to filter things from the internet, like an adwasher). Check their manual for information.

It does,nt matter if there checked you should be able to connect regardless.
click start then run type services.msc then scroll down to dhcp client and double click it
if it is stopped click start.
If it is started click stop then start again.
