Okay here is the general ordeal at hand, I have ATTEMPTED without success to restore my xp home with the recovery disks provided by the company, but to much dispair, they are somewhat corrupted, or what the repairman says, is the harddrive is scrambled. It seems around the internet there are no ACTUAL ways to fix this, yet i've turned it in to the people 4 TIMES already and paid 80 dollars EACH time, this time I'm broke and I need to know how the HELL they fix it every time with ease, and why this issue is so large, but isn't fixed. Today my registry was being fooled around with by my friend, who thought he knew what he was doing, turns out he deleted all of my svchost registry keys and none of my programs load, the task manager is disabled, as well as the command prompt, system restore, search, and regedit. I would REALLY like to know what the hell I can do to fix my computer, by a FULLY new reinstall, but when I use the recovery disks, I get a common error GHOSTER.TXT etc etc, I'm not going to attempt that this time, so I need some advice on a way I can reinstall fully without having to use the recovery disks, I have no win98 or any windows install disks for that matter, I just want it basically factory default, without using the recovery disk, for obvious reasons, thank you all in advance for the help!

HI!
The problem, with recovery discs and hard drives, is that Even if you get a new harddrive, then the recovery disk wont work. As there is some kind of unerasureable code on that hard drive, that recognize the recovery CD. And if the Recovery disk is corrupted. Then the only way, is to get a replacement, from the company or shop, that sold you the Emachine.
The third option, is to start to download Linux. And run Linux, until you have sufficient money, to get a copy of XP home. newegg : http://www.newegg.com/
They got an OEM version of XP home, including service pac 2, for 87.95
Avoid recovery disks as the plague! Most of the time, they are only a pain (As you now have learned the hard way). I had a compaq with recovery disks as my first PC. And I still got shivers down my spine.
And I feel a bit angry on your behalf. That the conmen, that you turned to 4 times, did'nt have the decency, at least after the 2:nd time you where there. To tell you to get a copy of xp instead.
With a real copy of XP, if you get any seriuos trouble with your windows installation, you can always do a "Repair installation" or in worst case reformat and reinstall Windows. But this is impossible with recovery discs.
