Hi all, I'm looking to buy a Inspiron 6000 Notebook PC, from Dell. So far I've read atleast 20 reviews on the damn thing and I've heard almost nothing but good news, But the one thing thoes reviews didnt answer is... Like apple notebooks and others, Does the hard drive have a motion sensor that detects movment and it moves the laser off the hard drive to prevent damage?
I hope it does.. I've heard almost nothing bad about this notebook and it looks like a good investment. I'm going to be using it for programming school work etc.
Anyways try to find out for me I would be happy to hear from the proud owners of this laptop to tell me what they think of it
Thanks,
Patrick.

I trust dell laptops... But I heard that this feture is available on latitude laptops so I would assume it would be available with this laptop as well. And really.. What the hell is soo bad about dells? I base them off of hardware not software. When I buy a dell I reformat it and don't install the dell accessories that it wants. Therefore its exactly like a custom built. The hardware in dells are good quality. Almost Fully upgradable. Hell that laptop can go up to 2 GB of ram. My dell Dimension 4700 can go up to 4 GB of ram. I've already added a new video card etc. Anyways I have a good trust in dell. The tech support sucks but other then that I like their systems. But do not buy cheap with dell. If you do I guarentee it will probably not work out that well.

Well, if your not going to use it for too much heavy gameing, it will be an O.K. machine.
Here is a review of the inspiron 6000

I couldn't find anything about Dell using some sort of motion sensor technology to stop the drive heads. If they did, I assume they wouldn't be so quiet about it. Most laptop hard drives employ their own shock protection now, but i'm not sure how that compares to IBM and Apple's solutions.
Some information here...

Well, I read a bit into the hard drive and I found this
"Shock Tolerance: Operating: 225 Gs @ 2 ms; Non-Operating: 900 Gs @ 1 ms"
Is that the same as that motion sensor thingy?

Shock tolerance doesn't exactly seem like a good thing lol
But I don't know I'm not that deep into hardware yet
