Did you get a USB PCI 2.0 card? or a USB 2.0 Slot bracket? See included pictures.

Did you check the BIOS settings for USB?

Posted by: Coasterboy

i got the card the one thats a chip
the 2nd picture

Posted by: Coasterboy

i got my computer in 2001 can that be the problem is my computer to old to read the new usb is there a certain usb 2 port i have to install

Posted by: goranpaa

What windows do you got? If it is XP? then it shouldŽnt be any problems with age
If you are running Windows 95, 98, or ME, you must install the driver, that came on CD with the card.
And age, have'nt anything to do with that. The card should work anyway.

And are you sure, that you have pushed the card all the way down in the PCI slot on your motherboard? Dont use brute force when doing that! Be careful, so you dont brake anything!

Field Value
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

should I try taking it out and doing it one more time to make sure

Posted by: goranpaa

Yes! But what windows do you got? Sorry to be nagging, but I would like to know.

Posted by: Coasterboy

I got Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

Posted by: goranpaa

O.K. I missed it. It's 01:30 a clock here in Sweden, so my intelligense is lower than normal. lol!
Then at least, you should'nt really need to install any drivers.
Have you looked in BIOS?

Press the "Delete" key, at first screen at bootup. In Bios, use the "Arrow" keys" to scroll around.
Look for any settings that says USB. Dont touch anything yet! Just make a note of what you see and display them here at the forum for me.

Posted by: Coasterboy

At bootup It said to press F10 for setup I pressed it and it toke me to the compaq computer corporation setup utility I then scrolled right utill I went to Advanced and in that option it said PCI devices I pressed enter then It showed me

Compaq IDE controller enable
compaq usb controller IRQ 11
compaq usb controller IRQ 10
compaq audio device IRQS 5
Compaq usb controller IRQ 5
compaq Usb conroller IRQ 10
Compaq usb controller IRQ 11
MOdem IRQ 10
ATI VGA controller IRQ 11

THats all it said was that the right info you needed

Posted by: goranpaa

That seems to be correct set. Have you reinstalled the card yet?

Does'nt Windows, say ANYTHING, about finding a new hardware, when you get to your Windows desk?

Posted by: Coasterboy

i am going to reinstall right now

Posted by: goranpaa

O.K! Ill wait.

i got it to work i just reinstalled it and now it works thanks alot for helping me but I have another problem my comcast is still slow I went to testmy.net to test my download speed and it said that I am only getting halve the speed I apost to be getting you know what can be the problem.

Posted by: goranpaa

Well, Im not that good at network problems. But I'll try anyway.
But dont, put any faith in that test. I whas told that i have the speed of a LAN3. when I just got LAN1, When I runned such a test. Pity it was'nt true lol.
Its better for you to contact your net provider, and ask them to check your speed.
They should be able to see both signal strenght and your actual speed.

Posted by: Coasterboy

im just going to call them up and do that thanks for helping me

Posted by: goranpaa

Youre welcome. Try downloading SIS Sandra and make a Benchmark test on your internet connection.
It's more reliable, than the one you used. But HOW reliable exactly I really cant say.

I went to "Test my speed" also now. And they say, that I have a reeeeeally slow connection speed too. I tried 3 times lol! Maybe if you donate them some money, your net will be faster in their tests?
