CD ROM dont work while IDE cable is in

i have a ASUS P4P800 SE motherboard with a sony DVD/CD/CD-R/CD-RW and it seems to not work while the IDE cable is pluged in. I know that the CD ROM works because i pluged it into my other computer. i bought new IDE cables and that didnt work and i pluged the hard drive into both IDE connector ports on the motherboard. they both seem to work. any ideas whats wrong?

Have you checked in BIOS? Do you see the ROM in there? Or maybe you should try flashing a new BIOS. The latest is 1009. (Have the same mobo as you).
