Ok I spoke a few months ago about purchasing a mobo, and after taking in all your good advice I have decided to go with the ASUS P4P800, this is one sweet board, what would you recommend for the processor? 3.0 or 3.2? Northwood or Prescott? what would be the best for a limited budget but still play Doom III with no lag what so ever???? Thanks.

Well a 3.0 would be good because for doom 3 the big difference is the video card, so i would get a 3.0 and then get a good video card like the 6800 or x800

Hi! I myself, as you can see. Have a P4P 800SE. And I would put my vote on the Northwood.
The Northwood is as fast as the Prescott. But the biggest difference lies within the cooling ability. There the Northwood is superior! That also makes the Northwood, a damned good overclocker. If you wanna O.C a Prescott. You must go liquid cooling.
I deliberately bought a 2.8 GHz. 800 FSB HT . Northwood. And clocked it via the "Jumperfree Overclock", in Asus BIOS, to 3.4 GigHz. ( The speed I really wanted) O.K. You should get a better cooler than the Intel Stock cooler to do that.
I would recommend (Biased, as I am. lol!) A Thermalright XP 90 or XP 90C and a good Enermax, Panaflo or Sunon, high CFM, 92 mm fan + Arctic silver 5, thermal paste.
Maybe a couple of nice case fans in addition is a good idea.
I have never seen my Northwood, go over 44C. No matter how much I have pressed it.
And by the way. The visual difference in performance, between a 3.0 GHz and a 3.2 Ghz. Is'nt worth the money. You must get a 3.4 GHz or higher to make any real difference.
And as gustav says, invest the money in a nice 6000 series videocard, that you saved by not getting a 3.2 GHz. And as the Northwood often is cheaper ( Depends on store and country), nowadays than the Prescott. You may save even more money on the Northwood.
EDIT: Try to get a 800FSB. HT Northwood.
Here, is the correct processor codes for Northwood 2.8 GHz HT 800FSB and 3.0GHz 800 FSB HT:
2.8 Boxed with cooler : BX80532PG2800D
OEM: RK80532PG072512
3.0 Boxed with cooler : BX80532PG3000D
OEM : RK8032PG080512
Remember that Northwood. 800FSB, HT is Pentium 4C
And Prescott is Pentium 4E
The picture to the left, is the Northwood.

WOW......That is some great information, I will go with the Northwood as I am running a 1.6 Northwood in my rig now, and a 9800 PRO Radeon as well, and I must say that I really have had no complaints untill as of late with the last few game I have been running (HL2 & Doom III), but I am bored and need to build a new rig, so thanks again!!!!!

Hi again. You COULD keep the Radeon 9800Pro, you know. It's still a good card, and will be o.k. At least fore a while longer.
O.K. I had a 2.26 GHz Northwood as my first P4. I had it O.C:ed for 2 years to 2.7GHz. And now it's sitting in a friends machine, since 1 year back. Just have in mind, to get the Northwood fast as you can! They soon are gone from the dealers shelves! People owning socket 478 motherboards have started to understand, that the Prescott whas´nt any hit, and are going for the Northwood instead. And Microsoft aint gonna make any new ones. They claim that the 0.13 micron core in the Northwood, whas too expensive to make.
