Hard drives shutting down while booting up

OK...this is frustrating!

I have an ABIT KT7 motherboard with an Athlon 1800+ processor. When the computer begins to boot up, the hard drives physically shut down (you can hear the power being cut to them). I've tried this with 4 drives I have sitting around, and all have this problem. I've tried different IDE cables and different IDE controller combinations - same problem!

Any thoughts? My two leading contenders are IDE controller and / or power supply.

Oh, I've pulled all cards except the video card.

Thanks!

Probably the PSU. Have you tried a new BIOS? Or resetting it via the reset jumper?
Recommend Antec PSU 430 to 480W.

I haven't tried a new BIOS, but I did reset it.

O.K. Then you really have nothing to loose, by flashing a new one.
Just be really , REALLY sure that you have the correct BIOS and follow the flash instructions carefully.
That is, if you have´nt got an auto update tool for BIOS. That will make the installation and flashing a lot easier task.

Just wanna add, that it COULD be the controller that kicked the bucket also. your guess is as good as mine.

Try this: http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb...ries=1&model=92

Idiot me, I have the KR7A-RAID board (good thing I checked before I flashed it!).

Getting beyond that, I updated to the latest BIOS...Still have the problem. I'm not liking where this is headed!

Nope! it´s either "Pest" (The mobo) or "cholera" (the PSU). And I have'nt got a clue, I must confess.

Thanks for your help!

As a follow-up, I changed out the power supply, but I still have the problem!

Buggers! Then its the mobo to go then.
