hey guys, is it possible for the Arctic Silver5 comound i put on my HSf when i built my system to go bad? Im asking because i noticed that my temps are gradually increasing. theres been no additional hardware added, nothing has really changed at all in the last year. when i first built it well over a year ago, my temps were stable at 32C idle/40something loaded. now, my temps are running around 38Cidle/55C loaded. what could cause my temps to very gradually increase? is it worth my while to completely disassemble everything and reapply AS5? i really dont feel like doing this.

This is maybe a silly question? But have you cleaned out the dust, from the Fans, fan grilles and cooler? And your fans keeps their speeds?

no, if the compound was working properly initially, its still working fine. you probably just have a dust or airflow problem. cat hair is fun in a computer.

thanks for the replies. i regularly clean it out with cannned air. i try to do it at the least once a month, and it stays faairly clean inside there. so this is why im wondering if its the thermal compund. speedfan reports that the fans are still working properly as they have since first building it. i just dont get it...

I don't know if this is true where you are, but its getting hotter here. The hotter the higher the temps.
out of topic I think your sig is wrong shouldn't it be 3mbps down? You'd want to download faster than you'd want people to upload, unless your running a server.

something is disrupting the airflow, unless the room temp has indeed gone up. you get to find out what it is
dont forget to check the case intakes, exhausts, and fans.

The lifespan of the themal compound is most likely, underyour operating conditions, the longest life of any system component. As to heat rising over time, that is right in line with the laws of thermodynamics. Do you clean out in your PSU?
Related idea, an increase in measured ambient temp. suggests one of three things. The level of heat being generated is increasing, the rate at which heat is being dissipated is decreasing, another source of heat has been introduced plus one or both of the first two. Do you have any old hds or other devices in your pc, maybe on of them is about to go? Do you smell any burning? Are your fans positioned so that they are moving air in the same direction not in opposition?

thanks for pointing that out for me superfly!
And yes i checked the PSU, i clean it as well with everything else. my 2 120mm fans are spinning the same direction, meaning one is intake and one is exhaust, unblocked by extraneous cables and wires. i suppose the ambient temps in my room have gone up a little being that summer is coming, but its been relatively mild here in NC. I will know more since it got hotter than Hades here today and we finally turned the A/C on. I would think that if it got hot one day and cool the next, the temps would moderate themselves accordingly. seems like they go up when it gets warm, but continue to stay up even when it gets cool (ie. cold fronts come thru here a lot this time of year.) Maybe its time for a Thermaltake XP-90? i hear they do very well with cooling. I would love to get the XP-120, but i have read that you need to bend some of the mosfet capacitors to get it in there and im not willing to do that! (mostly cuz im too poor to replace the mobo if i screw things up!)

Hi Oderus. You can do a little trick I saw a guy from India telling about. He had made a kind of "Summer door" with mosquito net for his PC case. And had a table fan, standing next to the pc.
Check out the new Thermalright XP 90C (All CU). It's a piece of jewelry! And performs VERY well!
Edit: I know this sounds crazy, But he had made a wooden frame with some kind of clasps for the contraption. And he claimed it worked for him. Looked pretty neat too.

Here is pictures of the Thermalright XP 90C.
Nice hey!?

heh, now you know he doesnt live in the states. every window and door has a screen here, even if removable

No, I did express myself badly. This guy I saw, from India had made that door fitting his PC case. But the idea whas about the same though. lol.
