ide cables

im currently taking the hard drive/ cd-rom/ and floppy drive out of an old packard bell comp and putting then into a newer chasis and mother board... while doing this i noticed that the ATA cables are different. The 40 pin cables for the hard drive and cd-rom have one hole blocked off. the old mother board only has 39 pins on the ide slots. the new mother board has 40 pins....my question is are there two different types of hard drive and cd-rom drive. or can i just use a different cable?

its possible theyre proprietary, as they came out of a commercial computer, but its unlikely. they should work fine on a standard ide cable.

They will be fine. I'm assuming pin is in the very center of the IDE cable... Lots of old computers have this..... If it's not in the center, I'd look for another IDE cable.
