ATI Radeon 8500 is Bogus?

(This news is a follow-up to this news - admin)

Ars Technica has a news compilation on their front page which covers some issues that have propped up lately with the ATI Radeon 8500 .

ATI's Radeon 8500 has been getting some very nasty PR lately. Kyle Bennett, of [H]ardOCP, has done some very interesting analysis in his review of the 8500, as well as in a follow-up article. Kyle's basically discovered that ATI's OpenGL driver is written so that it speeds up Quake 3 (and only Q3, not other Q3-engine games), apparently by intentionally decreasing visual quality, without in any way notifying the user.

They also make reference to some other articles claiming that ATI is putting slower boards in OEM machines, but with the ATI Radeon 8500 name.

Sounds like "Buyer Beware".

hehe

I thought some of NVidias tactics were bad. Looks like ATI is doing well to out do them.

I guess I need to read our own boards a little closer. I'm so tired today.
