gamecube problems

My Gamecube powers up and the light stays on, but I have no video or sound, and it doesn't play discs. How can I fix this?

Well, before you said the gamecube wouldn't read discs, I would have said your A/V cord was shot and get a new one. How do you know it's not reading discs if you get no audio or sound?
