Sims2 University Grpahics Problem
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just got the Sims2 University expansion pack, and I already have the Sims2 installed. The first time I tried installing the Sims2 University and error came up and terminated the installation. I tried to instyall it again, and it worked so I though all was well. I then started the game and went to one of the universities [Academie Le Tour] and went to Create a Student. I chose a household name and Sim name, but when I went to change what the Sim looked like all of the graphics were not as they should have been. Instead of previews of the article of clothing, there were silhouettes. Some of the silhouettes were all black, some were all white, some were what looked like cross-hatched black and white, but most of the silhouettes were white with muti-coloured stripes randomly placed about vertically. I just thought "Oh well." and proceded to make my Sim by trying on every piece to see what it was. When I had gotten my Sim to look how I wanted, I found I had spelled the name wrong so went back to fix it, but I could not edit the name. I could delete letters, but not add any letters or retype the entire name. I then exited the game via Task Manager and restarted it, although when I got back to the Creat a Sim screen, all of the graphics were still silhouetted and striped.
Could please inform me on what is wrong and how I can fix it?
Thank you,
Naomii
P.S. If you could not visualize that the graphics looked like you can go to http://www.photobucket.com/albums/v...pahicsError.jpg for a screenshot.

Check your Windows Device manager, if you dont know what video card you got?
Geforce:
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
Radeon:
https://support.ati.com/ics/support...dge&folderID=27
If you have an integrated videocard. Download, "Everest Home". Click "motherboard".
And check out what motherboard you got? Then make a note of manufacturer and model.
Go to the manufacturers home, and download the video card driver.

Ok, I found the update for my video card driver, and installed it, but when I restarted my computer and turned off all background programs and opened up the Sims2 University, I had the same problem. All the thumbnail previews were strange silhouettes. I asked my dad about it, since he also suggested installing the update, and he thinks I should uninstall and reinstall the entire game, the Sims2 and the Sims2 University. I'm hoping that will work, but I was also wondering if I could possibly back up my files? I know I have at least one family I'd like to save if at all possible, but I'm not sure which files I should back up and where they might be. Do you think you could help? Again, I really appreciate all the help you've already given, its great to find helpful people on the net. ^_^
Thanks again,
Naomii

Hi again! Check "My documents" and the SIMS 2 folder on your harddrive. The folder should be in one of those locations.
And just make a copy of your Saved game folder, and save it to a safe place. Most of the time this will work. Then directly after the installation, Copy the save game folder back.
EDIT: One other thing you can try ( longshot), Is to Degauss your monitor. If you press one of the monitor buttons (Can't tell wich though as it differs from monitor to monitor). You should find an ikon, looking like a magnet. That is the Degauss. When you press the button, the monitor will blur for a couple of seconds and then go back to normal. Anyway, it's good to Degauss your monitor once a month.
As you have installed a new driver. Go to the videocards propertys and set the resoloution. 1024 x 768, 16 bit colour is a good average setting.
And adjust additional settings, as Monitor update frequensy. A good setting, is 75 Hz. Also go to colour adjustments to set gamma , sharpness etc. This you will have to do, every time you update the driver.

Thanks! I backed up my files and reinstalled both games, and it seems so be working good now. I couldn't really find the Degauss button on my monitor, but my dad said not to bother. I also fixed my settings to match the ones you proposed, most were just as you said but I changed some a bit. Thanks again for all your help! =D
