Hello all!
I have a very strange problem here. I burned a data DVD with nero some time ago and there is no way I can read it under windows xp.
Funny thing is:
#1. I can read every other DVDs I have. (burned or pressed)
#2. I tried the strange DVD with other computers and even with living room DVD movie players and they can read it without any problem.
#3. When I start my system with a boot disk of windows 98, I can read this DVD no problem.
Can anyone figure this one out?

I researched your question to hopefully give you some answers.
I don't have a data DVD so I had to understand how the data DVD's burned. They should read just like a CD except only from a DVD Reader. Windows XP has built-in optical creation software (for CD-R/RW). It does not work for DVD's, however, you should be able to see the DVD-ROM in the device manager.
Try to disable the driver and either reinstall or download the latest Windows XP driver for the type of DVD-ROM from the manufactured website. You may have to even call them to let them know of the problem with their hardware.
Are you running Windows XP SP2 and what type of DVD-Rom do you have. I could give better insight.

Thanks for trying to help,
I am running windows XP SP2 with latest updates, the DVD-rom is a NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A. I can see this information clearly from the device manager.
It is to keep in mind that I can play some burned DVD movies without any problem with my current settings.
I uninstalled my device and reinstalled after reboot, it doesnt fix it.

Wow, this is strange. It seems like a compatibility issue from the software side. You wrote that you used Nero so I'm absolutely sure that you have the latest version of Nero. The DVD can be read in every other hardware except under the normal software of Windows XP. Sooooo...a compatibility conflict between.....something between Nero's settings and Windows XP's settings. You're right Alex, this is strange. Never even heard of it either. I have something to go from now. Get back to you.

On topic question: Could windows XP deny us to read a DVD because of its content?
