Disc Tray won't open

Hi, a new game wouldn't load so i took the PS2 apart. Then i realized in order to adjust the wheel (Disc Read Error), i needed the tray out. so i hooked it back up and connected the cord. The PS2 goes on, but when I press the Open Disc Tray button, the blue light only blinks, and the tray wont open. I take it apart again and i see that the gray tape (connecting the button to the disc tray) is not connected to the Disc Tray part. Is the beyond repair? Do I have to buy a new $200 system?

I dont want to because it seems to be a waste, especially with the backwards compatible PS3 just around the corner.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I dont remember breaking it, i was just playing socom 2, then i put in a new game (Dynasty Warriors 5) and it wouldnt load so i tried to fix the Disc Read Error. I do remember roughly handling the ps2 and its cover case when trying to take it apart, so maybe i ripped it off. IDK.

P.S.S. A black square rubber item is torn and ripped and is by a wide gray tape that does not seem to be connected to anything.
