DOOM 3 will not run

Hi all,
I'm having trouble with the above game. All three discs load successfully + 9.0b drivers.
The opening sequence runs but freezes at exactly the same point about a minute into the sequence. (where the camera pans round from the screen monitoring the incoming spacecraft). I have to reboot to clear the screen: no keyboard or mouse activity.
Can anybody help?
I can run the game Half life with no problem so I don't think my graphics card is the problem. It is an ATI Radeon 9800 AIW 128Mb
CPU is a Athlon xp3000
I don't have any more computer details with me at the moment but if someone replies I can supply them.

If you mean Direct X 9.0 b.
Then go to Microsoft home and download Direct X 9.0 C.
Also update your video card driver at ATI home.
If you have high "Quality settings". Like Antialazing and Anisotrophic filtering, lower them.
Check the case temp. By downloading mother board monitor 5, software.
Also try the trick by running the PC with the case door open. If you have any kind of fan at home. Aim it at the PC.
If it shows that it is overheating, that causes this problem. get a couple of suitable case fans.
