Why can't i play online

I have the newer model of the ps2 and every time i try to hook up with an internet it says i need to create a network configuration but everytime i make 1 it says timed out when i test connection then finally i made up an ip address and it worked but then when i tried to hook up to the game call of duty it says network not connected for some error probabaly because i couldn't find my primary dns or default router ( how do i find those!?) any so this morning i made up all of the setting s and it worked with the connection test but when i tried to go online it siad dnas failed to connect or something like that. Well if u can tell me why it is doing that or were i can find my primary dns and defualt router i would be greatful !!!!!!!!!
