I just wanted to say some of my thoughts about the "#1 movie in america" War of the Worlds. I thought the movie was really just crap. The movie is Tom Cruise just running away from alien's and everyone else gets zapped. Another thing i found dumb was the ending. If the aliens were such an advance race and have been observing earth for thousands of years, then how didn't they know about the bacteria that killed them. The last thing i found dumb was that Tom Cruise's son Robby walked over this hill to see the aliens and there was a huge explosion. Yet he met up with them in boston...WTF. I think this was a very bad movie from Steven Spielberg, and i would recommend you not to see it

That's part of the premise of the movie. The desperation and hopelessness is a key theme in the story. The humans simply have no chance against the relatively advanced technology of the aliens. But this advanced technology is a double edged sword, as we shall see.

They had been so advanced for so long that simple bacteria/disease was so far back in their past that they had forgotten all about it. Goes to show stupidity and arrogance are characteristics that don't go away no matter how advanced a civilization is.

Yeah, that was pretty ****ing stupid. The whole "Dad, I have to go..." dialogue was extremely awkward.
Casting Tom Cruise in my opinion was definitely not a good idea. He is not an everyman. He's been typecasted too many times as super hero spy person to ever have the audience consider him as Joe Everyman, like how the character in the movie is supposed to be.

Yes I agree the main character should have died after a few minutes yeah that would have been realistic and therefore a MUCH BETTER MOVIE!!

Perhaps Im wrong, but I think the movie was based on the book by HG Wells (Dont quote me on that because Ive never read it). A modified version of the story was enough to scare people s***less back in 1938. People actually fled the cities for fear of an alien invasion...

Yes it was a book, then a movie, and now this is a remake

Just saw it yesterday. I would recommend others to see it. I think Tom Cruise played his part real well (I had my doubts before I saw it, I never expected he'd play a role like this), and all in all it was just a very entertaining movie.

this wasn't a challenge for Cruise at all, his part was a mix of his roles in movies like Rain Man and Mission Impossible.
