guild wars if you have people you know to play with frequently. the game's greatness is doubled by each long-term participant you have.
wow if you don't care about the monthly bit and may or may not have regulars to game with.

GW all the way...
the only things I can say to detract from it are:
1) I don't have it YET
2) It's initials are the same as the nickname for the worst president in American history!

Playing them both an liking them both I'd lean towards WOW, However Bishop has it wrong, in guild wars you can pick up and play and just get 4-8 people and go quest in WoW its like no one wants too when your starting out.

WoW kicks ass, I play it all the time with my friends and i cant get enough, i guess it would have been a different story if i didnt know anyone who played this.

Those were kind of funny to me, first it was someone who has never played WoW and then it was someone who doesn't own both of them, dont know if they really have a educated opinion on this topic.
But my vote goes to WoW...Guild Wars is a good game, but to me it just seems as if the community isn't that big, the whole idea of a mmo is the big community, have tons of people around, which GW seems to be lacking and WoW gives that feeling. I may also be a little biased towards WoW just because of the fact that I have been a Warcraft fan for 10 years.

The problem is that GW really isn't an mmo at all yet they tried to sell it as such, even though they also say that it's a 'new type of ccmo' or whatever acronym they came up with.

GW is without a doubt the best game ever
reasons:
1)its free 2 play 
2)people play reguly so u can make freind easy
3)the battle system rules

Having played WoW for only a week, I was bored to death. GW in my opinion, is much better, especially since you can find the same people on and playing the game.
I haven't been this addicted to a game since probably Rune.
