Question: What do you guys and gals use or know are used, to backup D1 character's ? It seems that onece again I must start over *glares at IR * because my character was not backed up. See the comp was dying so *glares at IR* IR tried to fix it and sigh I lost my characters again and frankly,I might have to hurt someone next time so...... please help save IR if you know thank you. No IR's were harmed in the making of this (yet)

Thehelper.net has a nice program, but since TG has been having trouble they're not up. I'll put it up on my website and post a link later.

In reality, all you need to do is copy the multi_#.sv or single_#.sv files to another location, but sometime switching between computers won't work too well.
This program should make it easy.

[EDIT]This program backs up your characters to a floppy disk, so make sure you have one.[/EDIT]

Weren't they something.drv files in the Windows folder?

I can't remember.

I copied one of my multi_#.sv files from my computer to a friend's and I was able to play it on his. I think it's only the single player characters where the transferrring is a hassle.

in D1 the computer name has to be the same...if your game was on a machine whose comp name was Fido you need to rename the other computer Fido as well...

My computer name is Ghetto and his isn't, but we're in the same workgroup. That's probably why it worked.

Yep. They used to be hidden files in the windows directory. dlinfo_*.drv

The 1.08 patch made them visible and put them in the Diablo folder instead.

multi_x.sv - In the Diablo directory.
Just copy any of those to a floppy next time.

Realm chars are saved on the Realm.
Open/Offline chars are saved on your computer.

C:\Program Files\Diablo II\Save\charname.d2s
