Ideal Gaming System?

Can Someone help me out with what would be the ideal gaming system to build? Like what Motherboard, processor (Athlon?) etc. etc. Thinking about upgrading, but not sure what is the best out there.

Currently The fastest setup would be with the new Athlon 1800XP(1.53Ghz.) processor. Not only is it around 10% faster than the Pentium 4 2 Ghz, it's around 400$ cheaper as well.
If cost isn't an issue, grab a Geforce 3. And grab some low latency DDR memory like Corsair PC2400 DDR so you can use agressive memory timings. It costs a bit more, but it's still a lot cheaper than Rambus if you got a P4.
A good motherboard for performance right now would be one based on the VIA KT266A chipset. Not many boards out yet. If you go that route, the EPOX 8KHA+ is a good choice. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...anufactory=1318
Make sure you get the one with the + on it. Stay tuned, i'm sure more recommendations will come.

You can go with confidence in Ion's recommendation.

A GeForce 3, would is really good for a gaming system. You should get lots and lots of RAM, it is cheap and increases the performance of your computer. You could also get a good soundcard SoundBlaster.com. I also found that having good speakers, make the games a lot more fun. My friend as these dell speakers speakers, and the sound is unbelievable.
