Can't Open MS Word attachment in Outlook Express

I am using Windows XP w/ SP2 installed and MS Works/MS Word 2002. When I receive a MS Word attachment in my Outlook Express email and try to open it by double clicking it, I get the message "abnormal program termination." I think I read once that this was caused by two MS Works or Word programs conflicting and that one needed to be tweaked or removed in Control Panel>>Add Remove Programs. Does anyone have a clue how to solve this problem. Thanks,

Right click the attachment. Save it to your desktop. Open MS Word. Open the file through Word.

Thanks for the work around solution. I was hoping someone would know how to fix it and save some key strokes as I get a lot of ms word attachments. Thanks for your help.

Could this lsobe caused by your security setting in Outlook Express? Tools/Options/Security
