Pikmin problem on NGC

i have a strange problem with this game.....
during play it randomnly freezes, and no amount of opening closing the lid sorts it.
i have had 2 replacement discs from gamestation, and a different memory card(as it kept saying it needed formatted, so i thought my save game was corrupt) and the gamecube plays mario sunshine, mario kart and ace golf fine.
anyone got any ideas??
