diablo 2 not installing

i have windows xp on my new labtop, when i try to install the game it goes until i ahve to switch back to the install disk then it freezes and i get the "not responding" error. i tried my friends disk which is newer and it still will not install. can someone please let me know whats wrong if u know. email me at fitbykeryder@wowway.com in case i do not check back here. im not quite sure what the problem is so please help. thanx
