ps2 won`t play colored disc`s

I have an older style ps2 30001 model won`t play ps1 discs at all ,somtetimes will play the blue ps2 discs, always plays the silver discs no problem.I was wonderring if the laser needs replacing ?I tried adjusting the laser ,I would almost get the blue disc to play but then I just get a black screen.any Ideas what I should do /(I cleaned the lens with alchol and a qtip).with the colored discS u can hear scraping noise when the laser is trying to load the game.

Well ur problem sounds lots bigger than mine I can't get the thing to play any PG movies I don't know the password
