user password reset

There's nothing that can make me feel quite like the simpleton that Windows XP does... but anyways... my daughter has a password on her main user account on her computer and being the sweet but forgetful kid she is, she can't remember what it was or what the hint means... how do I go about resetting it so she can download and such to her computer again? Thanks in advance for any help.

if its the admin account, format. if its not the admin account, use that to reset it.

the relevant question is why is she using a password that she cant remember, doesnt have written down, and has no clue about the hint on a computer she uses daily.

If it's the admin password, download and burn the "Astrumi" Linux live CD ISO from here:

http://sourceforge.net/project/show...lease_id=348408

Boot the PC from that CD, at the first prompt, type "nt_pass" (without quotes) and follow the instructions from there. Should be pretty straight-forward.

Thanks for the help

Ratometer, I will try that. I hoped there was something out there like that, that could get me by the login. I'm glad you knew about it.

Redwench, Yes its the admin and as for you're relevant question the answer is.. She's 9 and this computer is for her to become familiar with computers on. Something for her to learn by experience from and she was curious of course. Of course thats not really that relevant but anyways. Thanks for the reply.

Glad to help.

I did forget one piece of info... the nt_pass program doesn't do well at setting a new admin password to anything but a blank (empty) password.

Google on "nt_pass" for more information.
