Ps2 Controller Problems

My friend and I just tried playing Metal of Honor last night. We were trying to play 2 players on a split screen. My problem is that neither mine or his PS2 would recognize a second controller in the system. We tried 3 different controllers and none would work, but only on this game, they worked on any other game we played.
Any ideas on what we have done wrong?

could it be that the game is a system link multiplayer only??

You need 2 analoge joydticks if you want to play 2 player games with that game.
You might have the analoge sticks on yar joystick but that does not mean that it is a analoge js.
I've had the same issue. but solved
