programs not opening under certain users

Hi all,
right the problem is thus: sporadically microsoft office and adobe acrobat standard lose the ability to run under random users. Its a case of it was working last night before they switched off, and now its not.
the microsoft programs will always run fine under administrator the adobe acrobat will not run under any user.
So it pretty much goes without saying its a registry problem, but what is causing it and how to solve it is at present totally evading me. any ideas?
