Random LAN Failures

I have an LAN connected to a host computer where we get internet. Every few hours my LAN experiences a random failure, in which connection to the internet and the ability to access or connect to other computers in the network is completely lost. Of course, since the host computer is connected directly to the internet, it remains online, but all other computers in the LAN lose their connection.
If the host computer is restarted, the network comes back up and everything works alright until there is another random failure a few hours later. In addition, if there is a failure and the computer is not restarted but instead I wait about an hour, the LAN comes back up again by itself without any restart needed.
I've been restarting the host computer for years whenever the LAN randomly fails, but I think it's about time I figure out exactly what's wrong so that I can stop these random LAN failures from happening at all.
This could be a hardware problem, I'm not sure.
Any ideas? Thanks.

It would help if we new something about your hardware and software setup?
Otherwise I might as well say the Decepticons are responsible.
