Hi:
I have a big problem with my pc: Last week i reinstalled Windows XP, upgraded the mother BIOS, and i upgraded all my drivers and software after the instalation. Now my pc ramdomly frezes. The mouse and the keyboard doesn't respond, and i have to press the reset button to reboot. After that, i reinstalled everything 4 times, but the freezes doesn't stop. I open my computer case and extracted all the dust, i replaced the 5 case cooler fans, cleaned the cpu cooler, replaced one of the hard disk coolers and clean / lubricate the cooler of the other hard disk. But the freeze continues. Its one of the drivers?. One of the hard disk coolers is broken?. Ill apreciate very much if you can help me. Thank you very much.
This is my hardware:
K8V SE DELUXE with latest BIOS ver 1008
AMD Athlon 64 3200 + Socket 754 (BOX)
1,50 GB DDR 400 RAM
Samsung SP1604N 160 GB ATA 133 + Cooler
Western Digital SATA 200 GB + Cooler
DVDRW LG
DVDROM LG
XFX Ge Force FX 5200+ 256 MB AGP 8X
Windows XP Pro SP2
512 K Cablemodem

unless youre running under extreme conditions, you dont need a hard drive cooler. so thats not it. you should be checking your temps and voltages for the entire system however.

pull the CMOS battery for 5 minutes (recent mobos have a jumper which supposedly does the same thing). Make sure that there is no "electrical garbage" that is conflicting with your new bios and install.
Also, does the system run stably without all that updating. If so a recent driver may conflict with your new bios. This will all be in the "known issues" topics for that bios.
Also, I note your ram size. I take that to be a combination of three or four chips. Try pulling them one at a time and see if anything clears up. Run memtest as well.

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I removed the 3 DDRs, and reinstalled them in a diferent order, checking that the 3 are well atached in to the mother. Also i reinstalled the BIOS with Asus Update. I added a third cooler in the top of the case (extracts air) and a thir cooler in the left side (air in). Now the Cool n' Quiet feature works very well and 1 hour have passed without freezing. I disabled Master ECC in the setup.
I hope the problem has been resolved. Thank you very much for your support!!!

This damn bitch freezed again. I set all the bios values to default, and double checked that all the values are as shown in the motherboard manual. After upgrading the faking bios, everithing run fine with this hardware config, so the hardware its not the problem. Its a setup value. The drivers i'm using worked well before reinstalling Win XP, so the only damn thing can cause this freezes is the BIOS. Checking the setup defaults and the values in the manual, i found some values that are enabled by the setup defaults and are disalbed in the manual. This is very frustrating. Wish me luck!!!
