Well, some interesting tests have been performed in an effort to directly compare Windows 2000 with the newly released Windows XP. Tests were run on varying processor setups against varying organizations of Windows 2000/XP and Office 2000/XP.

It appears that for light-duty service on the newest hardware, Windows XP with Office XP is an acceptable choice -- if an 11 percent performance hit, or 53 minutes added to an 8-hour day, is acceptable.

Thinking of changing to Windows XP, or buying a new system (please don't) outfitted with the newly released, and certainly lackluster operating system? Perhaps you should read the results of the tests and think again.

Ha!

It's nice to know I wasn't imagining XP running slower than W2K. The review also shows that Intel and Microsoft are full of crap when they say Windows XP is optimized for the Pentium 4.

There will be a flood of critiques showing the shortcomings of XP. Windows XP may be an improvement for home users that previously used Win 9x and ME. But, it falls short and complicates the business environment.

Well it's official. I'm sticking with Windows 2000.

Posted by: Chako

Yes...it is an improvement to home users (Some at least). If I was running or maintaining a business though..I would stay away from it.

Posted by: Gunslinger

To be perfectly honest, I don't even see the benefit for home users - not over Windows 2000.

Over ME/98, perhaps, but not over 2000. I think Kane said something like this.

The more I am using XP, the more I am liking it. I don't have any experience with 2000, so I cannot comment other then to say I will defer to those who have used it. I find It a big improvement over the more traditional home fair of the 95/98/ME line.

I have wanted to upgrade to Win2000, but my dad won't do it. He says that Win2000 does not work well with games. I don't think that is true because i know a lot of people use it and play games along with some of you. Is this true? because i want Win200

Posted by: Ion Silverbolt

I haven't had any problems with games. In fact, some games run better in Windows 2000. Older or poorly programmed games are the only ones that have trouble in Windows 2000.

Posted by: Bobaroo

Ok that is good. He said that DOS. games or something like that don't work.

Posted by: Kdr Kane

That is correct. DOS games and other 16-bit programmed games will not run under Windows 2000.

Posted by: Bobaroo

So all other games work? The only games i can't play would be the DOS. games then? I am not even sure what DOS. games i have.

What are some DOS games?

This includes more than just DOS games. Technically speaking, any games which do not use the Win32 Advanced Programming Interface exclusively will not work.

what are games like that?
