I think StarWars and followed closely by Superman were the best theme movies.
I can remember those two right off my head without thinking and I liked those themes when I first heard it.

Best musical score written for a movie (which leaves out the Doors movie, although that had an awesome soundtrack):
Any Tim Burton / Danny Elfman corroboration. Great music.
Especially "Nightmare Before Christmas."
And actually, "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" had an excellent score too.
