Overclocking SLi

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm building a SLi system with either two 6600GTs or two 6800s. I use coolbits now to overclock my current 6600GT. What I'm wondering is, if I have an SLi system setup, will coolbits overclock both videocards or just one? Also, if coolbits doesn't work, which software will I need and how do I overclock both to the same numbers at the same time?

I think it is like any overclocking of a single videocard. As far as I know, the O.C. will affect both cards.

And coolbits should do the job for you. But if you like to try another OC software? try Riva Tuner or Powerstrip. Riva Tuner, also have the possibility to display the video cards temperatures in Windows tray. This is very handy, as you don't have to enter the drivers propertys, every time you wanna check the temps.

Why would you do that? Its completely pointless. If your going to have 2 cards you don't need to overclock.

thanks for throwing your vast wealth of overclocking knowledge into this discussion.

No problem ^_^

Im trying to save him from killing his cards. If your going to build a sli system you wouldn't have the need to overclock. First off with the combined ram of both video cards games will run so nicely. And the cards your looking at are really good. If you overclocked you might face overheating and WILL shorten the lifespan.

You will face heating issues. Real power, and its corresponding relation to heat as per Joule's Law, is cumulative. Two cards, twice the real (and apparent power fyi issues).

I personally don't OC, but I keep my mind in the issue. One 6800 outperforms 2 6600s, and may cost less. From what I have been reading, one 7800 will outperform 2 6800s and might cost less. OCing might be fun and if you can afford it worth the risk of damage but just check what you are spending before you decide.

A 6800 will not out perform two 6600GTs. Also, I wasnt asking for your opinions on whether I should or shouldn't overclock. I'm purchasing a Koolance EXOS to liquid cool my system so I'm not too worried about overheating. Thanks for the help though.
