Incorrect MHZ shown

I have a Toshiba Tecra 8000 with a Pentium II, 366 mhz processor. Has Windows Me. When I check System Information, it shows anywhere from 94 mhz to 295 mhz.
I replaced the cpu and got the same thing.
What does this mean? Why doesn't it show a 366 mhz processor?
Thanks, ziffles

A laptop's processor speed goes down when it's not needed, to save power.

Makes since. But all other times I have set a Tecra 8000 up, Me showed the correct speed. This was the only time it showed less. Thanks, !

Nice try, but no It don't work like that especially on older technologies such as this laptop.

the problem would most likely be your BIOS not reporting the system information correctly which can be Fixed by attempting to update or reflash your BIOS (Not recommend : If BIOS flash does not go well, it may be the end of your motherboard)

Other thing, it may simply be due to a faulty Operating System

To tell if the problem is from the BIOS or the OS, Open your BIOS screen and check what the CPU Frequency is, and then compare it with the reading in Windows.

BIOS update sounds promising. Will flash and let you know. Thanks !!

Flashing the BIOS worked! Now reads 366 mhz as I expected it to. Thanks a bunch.
