Zero Hour; "Mismatch Detected"

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have read in various forums around the internet and this seems to be a widespread problem. When I play Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour with three other friends, about 5 minutes into the game an error message pops up that states "Mismatch Detected". It follows up saying that it has lost synchronization between the players. This is a LAN game we are playing (hence, no cheating or game hacking). When we play with only three players, we can play for about 50 minutes before a mismatch is detected. Oddly enough, the error only happens when we are playing with my computer. In our multiplayer games we set the "Game Speed" to "- -". I do not know what this double-hyphen term means; should I try to set the game speed manually? I suspect my computer tries to pull aheadof the other computers. Zero Hour is the only game we have encountered that has this problem.

Possible problems: A bad map (does anyone have a list of maps that work properly?)
We are only using one disk.
My computer plays the game much faster than their's do in skirmish.
I have altered some sound and image files (no units have been added or altered in their statitics, only their animation and report sounds), although I have read that this "Mismatch Detected" error is also present in the un-moddified version.

My three friends played with another friend one time (four computers and two disks) and they played a full three hour game with no problems. The problem seems to be on my computer.

My computer specifications: AMD 64 3200+
1280 PC2100 DDR RAM
Radeon 9600 64MB
Windows XP Service Pack 2
Generals: Zero Hour v1.04
