(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm building my own computer and am putting a Pentium4 3 GHz CPU, and when i boot it up it says that there is a CPU fan error.
I checked the fan and it seams to be faciend in place securely.
These fans are a pain ass.
Thanks in advance.

Hi!

Yeah, On the Intel stock cooler, you can't change the fan.

And when you still are at it. Why don't get a better cooler right now?

Here is one of the very best aircoolers you can get:

Thermalright Xp 90. ( See picture).

$31.99

If it is a prescott P4 LGA 775 socket, you will need a extra bracket for the XP 90:
+ 4.89 USD.

A very good Fan for the XP 90:

If the temps are reasonable, just press F1 (or whatever) to continue. Mine also says that once in a while, I just ignore it, since it's working just fine. Just make sure it doesn't get too hot. If it gets anywhere above 60 degrees celcius it's something to worry about.

download and run motherboard monitor5 just to be sure your temps are still ok

What should the avrage temp be for this kind of CPU?

Posted by: goranpaa

I would say, that Load temps from 45C and down is good temps.
And as long as the temps stays under 60C they are pretty O.K.
You should start to get nervous, when the temps go over 65 C - 70 C though.(Load)

I have as you can see in my sig. A Thermalright XP 90 and and an over clocked P4 C Northwood 2.8 @ 3.4 GiGhz

And after running the PC in 5 hours in 21 C room temp. I have 33 C case temp and 35C. Cpu temp Idle.

Under load the temps are. Case: 35 C. and CPU: 40 - 42 C when gaming for 2 hours in 21 C room temp.

Thanks goranpaa.

You're welcome.

But also would like to add, that the airflow capacity of the PC case and additional case fans, will also affect the CPU temps somewhat.

Therefore, a bigtower or a fulltower case is the best choise, when getting a new rig.
At least as long as you don't carry the fulltower case rig to LAN parties. lol.
