Networking with USB2

I was wondering how well networking with USB2 works, and what type of cable you need for it. I know its not a regular cable.

I have my old system networked with my new one right now, but the old system is only 10/100 ethernet, as is the router. And I feel that buying a new router plus a Gigabit card for the old system would be more of a hassle then just getting a USB2 card for the old system.

I also have the option of just getting a couple of Gigabit cards and running through that way. That may be the better route, as they are pretty cheap and would probably be less configuration. Plus, i would have the speed.
