No boot from XP (neither CD)

Hi all
I've not found anything on this, please could someone help me ? I cannot start my system (WinXP Pro SP2 - P4 3GHz - ASUS P4P800S) neither from disk nor from CD: from disk it stops after POST, from Win CD it stops at 'Performing hardware verification'. However I can boot from Linux LiveCD (Knoppix 3.7) and I can see all the HD ! What could be the cause and how can I correct the problem? Thanks to all
