Gateway 400vtx

Recently the screen on my Gateway laptop gotten darker and darker each time I turn it on and now is completely black. The computer boots up and seems to be running fine but there is no image. Any suggestions as to what it might be? Thank you!

Could be lack of power or the video card going bad.Or the connection between the screen and video card is not working as it should.
