Diablo II Exp temporarily freezes when bosses die

Hi,
I have a Gateway/eMachines notebook computer with an AMD 3400+ (64 bit)/512MB RAM/80GB 4200rpm(?)/DVD+-RW/ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 w/64MB ram and whenever a boss dies (Shenk) my screen/character/mouse/keyboard freezes for about 10-15 seconds while the sound is playing. I can see the drops but I can't pick them so I don't get any of the good stuff. Anyone know why this is happening? My girlfriends computer (desktop) is hooked up to the same internet and doesn't have these problems even though it is a slower machine (except for the hard drive). Surfing the net etc seems to work ok as does game play outside of the bosses dying. Is there something about my hardware or possibly game installation that could be causing this?
